Traditional Portuguese Caramujos earrings with floral motifs made of blue enamel. Typical for the south of Portugal.
Caramujos are marine molluscs with hard and durable shells. Since ancient times, many peoples have used mollusk shells to create jewelry. Portugal is no exception. The tradition of creating Caramujos jewelry goes back to the distant past of Portugal.
Using enamel to add new colors to jewelry is an ancient practice used by Portuguese jewelers since Roman times. The decoration technique involves alloying metal with a very thin layer of colored glass.
The floral design is reminiscent of traditional Portuguese Azulejo tiles.
Handmade.
The earrings were made in the city of Gondomar (Portugal), the jewelry capital of Portugal.
