Caramujos are sea mollusks with a hard and durable shell. Many people have used mollusk shells to create jewelry since ancient times. Portugal is no exception. The tradition of creating Caramujos jewelry goes back to the distant past of Portugal.

Using enamel to add new colors to jewelry is an ancient practice used by Portuguese jewelers since Roman times. The decoration technique involves fusing metal with a very thin layer of colored glass.
The floral pattern resembles the traditional Portuguese Azulejo tile.
