A new tourist area has opened on Rua das Flores in Porto, transforming the street into a vibrant stage where Portuguese culture is on display in all its glory.
The restored buildings located on Rua das Flores, between numbers 66 and 82, now house four iconic Portuguese brands, without which it's impossible to imagine Portugal, its culture, and history.
- Confeitaria Peixinho, a patisserie;
- Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa, a historic seafood preserves store;
- Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau, where you can sample the legendary Pastel de Bacalhau;
- Joalharia do Carmo, a Portuguese filigree jewelry shop.
The building, entirely dedicated to jewelry and filigree, houses workshops where curious visitors can observe the artisans at work.
Work is underway on a three-story spiral staircase adorned with gold filigree.
Creating this filigree masterpiece will require over 300 kg of thread, 313 km long, and 198,000 hours of work.
Some elements have already been completed and installed. According to the organizers, it will take 95 years to complete the staircase's decoration.
