Larimar

Larimar is a semi-precious light blue mineral, one of the varieties of pectolite. The mineral is also known as “Blue Pectolite” or the stone of Atlantis.

The story goes that Larimar was discovered back in 1916 in the Dominican Republic by Catholic priest Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren. The priest asked the government of the Dominican Republic for the right to study the mineral, however, since it was a material that had never been used to make jewelry, the government did not grant permission.

Larimar was finally discovered in 1974 by Dominican jeweler Miguel Mendez in volcanic rocks in the coastal southwestern part of the Dominican Republic.

The mineral was named after the jeweler’s youngest daughter Larisa and the word mar (sea), as it has a marine color.

Since the early 1980s, industrial mining and processing of this mineral has been carried out for the purpose of its use in the jewelry industry.
Larimar is found in only two places on the planet - on the Barahona Peninsula in the Dominican Republic and in the area of Fitt in Italy. Its supplies are limited.

Larimar is believed to help maintain calm in the mind and body of the person who uses it. Able to enhance intuition and creativity.
