Gondomar launches a brand for the jewellery sector - Gondomar Original Jewellery.
This is the certification mark that will be used to identify products made in this region.
Gondomar is the largest jewellery centre in Portugal, concentrating 42% of the country's annual production
The goldsmithing and jewellery sector, which accounts for 35% of the municipality's industry, employs 800 people and brings in 50 million euros in annual revenue.
With a turnover of up to 50 million euros and an industrial weight of 35% in the Gondomar region, the goldsmithing and jewellery business has such an economic impact at local level that the municipality decided to launch a new brand for the sector - Gondomar Original Jewellery.
In the first phase, Gondomar City Council wants to bring together around a hundred of the 445 jewellery companies operating in the municipality, 70% of which are sole proprietors. But the aim is to extend the project to the remaining companies in order to unite the whole sector in promoting this brand, which will be launched on 20 April. According to the municipality, this sector employs around 800 people, making it the fourth largest employer in the county.
The new image of this campaign will have hands as its symbol, since "it's the hands that work and build what is one of the biggest sectors of activity in the municipality", describes Marco Martins, the mayor of Gondomar.
