Maritime and jewelry traditions of Portugal

In April 2019, the first ocean passenger liner entirely designed and manufactured in Portugal was launched. The ship was named “World Explorer”

The ship’s godmother was Carla Bruni, a singer and wife of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was in Portugal at the time. At the opening ceremony, Carla Bruni wore a filigree necklace with the Heart of Viana. This is a traditional gift from businessman Mário Ferreira to the ship’s godmother.
