Gondomar Filigree considered Intangible Cultural Heritage

Since September 7, 2023, filigree from the city of Gondomar (District of Porto) has been included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage (INPCI).

Jewelry craft, which originated here in pre-Roman times, actively developed in the 18th century, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it became a distinctive feature of Gondomar. Today Gondomar is the largest center of jewelry production in Portugal, the jewelry capital of the country.

Twelve Gondomar workshops are included in the certification list of the National Brand "Filigree of Portugal", seven workshops are part of the tourist route "Filigree Route". There is a filigree museum in the city. The only educational institution in the country for jewelers and watchmakers is located here.
