In the White House of Gramido (Casa Branca de Gramido) in the city of Gondomar, above the Douro River, the Municipal Filigree Museum opened on May 20, 2022.
In this house, on June 29, 1847, the Gramido Convention was signed, an agreement that ended the long, painful and devastating civil war in Portugal.
The filigree excursion route Rota da Filigrana begins with a visit to the filigree museum. Museum visitors learn about the history of filigree. The exhibition was assembled by local hereditary jewelers: utensils, tools, technical devices, furniture.

The museum has many interesting exhibits. Here is the famous filigree dress that was exhibited in the Portugal pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai. The unique handcrafted piece is the result of a collaboration between artist, jeweler Arlindo Moura and stylist Micaela Oliveira. In the dress, the bodice is made of several pieces of filigree, forming a kind of puzzle. Three Portuguese caravels are embroidered in gold on the skirt, the sails of which are also made of filigree. It took 2040 hours to create this piece of filigree art.
In the museum's exhibition you can see the world's largest filigree heart, on which Gondomar jewelers worked together. The museum houses a collection of 60 unique and inimitable filigree items.

If you listen carefully to the guide's story, you will be able to create your own Viana heart at the interactive stand. Not everyone manages to quickly master the profession of a jeweler :). Those who are lucky will receive a small gift from the museum staff.
